At 21 Carpenter, a boutique hotel in Chinatown, four conserved shophouses from 1936 meet a striking new block that cantilevers above them. Designed by WOHA Architects, its perforated screens weave in phrases from letters once penned by Chinese migrant workers – stories of reflection and longing.

With passive cooling, greenery, and open spaces that welcome both guests and the neighbourhood, 21 Carpenter keeps history alive while shaping a more sustainable, connected city.
