Thanksgiving Southern Style Green Beans!

Описание к видео Thanksgiving Southern Style Green Beans!

In this video I show you how I cook Southern Style Green Beans with Smoked Ham Hocks. This is how I cook my canned green beans because it gives them a lot of flavor.
You can use smoked turkey wings as a replacement for the pork if you do not eat pork. Sometimes I use a few strips of fatback when I don’t have ham hocks but most of the time I keep them on hand.
To go vegan you can use Goya ham flavored packs, which are vegan friendly and a couple of tablespoons of vegetable oil.

Southern Style Green Beans

1 (102 ounce / 6 pounds 6 ounce) can of Green Beans any brand you like
1 Package Smoked Ham Hocks with 3 or 4 Ham Hocks
12 cups of water to start
1/2 Teaspoon Salt
1/4 Teaspoon Black Pepper
1/4 Teaspoon Sugar, optional

Wash your ham hocks and add them and the water to a pot. Let cook on medium heat for about an hour. The ham hocks cooking in the water will create a ham broth which flavors the green beans. If the water level is low add more water. After another hour and a half the ham hocks should be tender but not done. Add the seasonings to the broth. Rinse the green beans in the sink in a colander to get rid of the liquid that the beans have been packed in. This makes the green beans taste like the can so you want to get rid of that taste. This is where the touch of sugar helps. Pour the green beans into the pot with the ham hocks. Cook for about an hour then taste to see what you need to add. You can add chopped onion and red pepper flakes at this point if you like. Continue to cook the green beans until most of the liquid is boiled off.
Enjoy!
