USS Indianapolis delivered the atomic bomb that ended World War 2. Ten days later, the ship was torpedoed. 900 men ended up in shark-infested water. The Navy didn't notice they were missing. For 5 days, sailors fought sharks, thirst, and death. Only 316 survived.
The USS Indianapolis Disaster - July 1945:
On July 26, 1945, USS Indianapolis delivered Little Boy atomic bomb components to Tinian Island. The bomb would be dropped on Hiroshima 10 days later, ending WW2. But Indianapolis never saw that victory.
July 29, 1945: Japanese submarine I-58 torpedoed Indianapolis. The ship sank in 12 minutes. 900 men entered shark-infested Philippine Sea water.
