Thanks to our follower for submitting this tip request question: How many DPT programs should I apply to?

This is a very important question for multiple reasons! On average most pre-PTs apply to 5-6 DPT programs, and in general we recommend that applicants apply to no more than 8 or 9 DPT programs. Any greater number is applying via the “shotgun” approach and is ineffective for the following reasons:

1. Applying to PTCAS costs money. It is $170 for the first program you apply to and $70 for each additional program you apply to. Applying to 20 programs would cost you $1,500!!! That does not account for supplemental application fees you may have to pay as well.

2. Each program you add to your plate adds additional supplemental essays or materials that you are going to need to complete. These essays and materials take time and energy to write, so do yourself a favor and be very targeted with the ones that you are devoting your time and attention to.
