The beginning of the city of San Antonio as a civil settlement in the province of Tejas is generally recognized as the arrival of 16 Families consisting of 55 immigrants from the Canary Islands. Together, they formed the nucleus of the San Fernando de Béxar villa, now the city of San Antonio.

From 1740 to 1812, San Antonio witnessed seven individuals from the Delgado family who played pivotal roles in local governance for over three generations. These men dedicated 72 years of service to their home community, La Villa de San Fernando. They were born to serve under one name—the name that became synonymous with leadership—Delgado.
