GIS, or The Guaranteed Income Supplement, is the money low-income retirees in Canada receive from the government.

The GIS is somewhat similar to the Social Security in the US. And if you are not sure what it means, feel free to watch one of my other videos.

And here is an example.

If you are older than 65, live in Canada, and your income is lower than $19464, you are eligible to apply and receive the GIS.

For couples the income threshold is increased to $46656.

The GIS distributions are not taxable. And maximum monthly GIS amount you can receive is $959.26.
