The paranasal sinuses are air-filled cavities within the Frontal, Ethmoidal, Sphenoidal, and Maxillary bones (the hollow spaces in the skull and facial bones around the nose).

There are 4 pairs of the paranasal sinuses:
Maxillary sinuses - The maxillary sinuses are located on each side of the nose, near the cheekbones.
Frontal sinuses - The Frontal sinuses are located above the eyes, near the forehead.
Ethmoidal sinuses - The Ethmoid sinuses are located on each side of the bridge of the nose, near the eyes.
Sphenoid sinuses - Sphenoid sinuses are Located within the sphenoid bone.

Sinusitis is an inflammation of the tissue lining the sinuses. Healthy sinuses are filled with air. But when they become blocked and filled with fluid, germs can grow and cause an infection.

-Exposure to Dusty or Smoky Environments
