Welcome back to The Old Cookbook Show! Today, we're exploring a unique recipe from a 1930s recipe club cookbook: Vinegar Cookies! This recipe book from Soothsayer Flour is filled with unique vintage recipes that were mailed out to club members, and today we’re giving one a try. These Vinegar Cookies are a surprising blend of vinegar, almond extract, and brown sugar for a light, slightly crispy texture with a melt-in-your-mouth centre. 1 cup brown sugar
1 cup granulated sugar
1 ½ cups shortening
2 tablespoons vinegar
1 teaspoon soda
4 1/2 cups sifted SOUTHSAYER FLOUR
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon almond
2 eggs

Cream the supar and shortening thoroughly. Add the 2 eggs and mix well. Add the vinegar.
Sift the flour and soda together 4 times and then sift into mixture, a little at a time until all the flour is used. Add the two extract. Roll dough into small balls place on a cooky sheet and mash flat with a fork.
Bake in oven about ( 350 degrees) for about 10 minutes.
This recipe will make about 80 cookies and will stay fresh end brittle for several days:
