1️⃣ WHO (person – subject)
👉 Used for people when the relative pronoun is the subject
Example 1
Before
• The boy is my brother.
• The boy is playing.
After
✅ The boy who is playing is my brother.
Example 2
Before
• The teacher is strict.
• The teacher teaches English.
After
✅ The teacher who teaches English is strict.
Example 3
Before
• I met a girl.
• The girl lives nearby.
After
✅ I met a girl who lives nearby.
Example 4
Before
• The man is kind.
• The man helped me.
After
✅ The man who helped me is kind.
Example 5
Before
• Students succeed.
• Students work hard.
After
✅ Students who work hard succeed.
2️⃣ WHOM (person – object)
👉 Used for people when the relative pronoun is the object
Example 1
Before
• The girl is my friend.
• I called the girl.
After
✅ The girl whom I called is my friend.

• The man is a doctor.
• We respect the man.
After
✅ The man whom we respect is a doctor.

3️⃣ WHOSE (possession)
👉 Shows ownership (people or things)
Example 1
Before
• The student is crying.
• The student's bag is lost.
After
✅ The student whose bag is lost is crying.

• I know a man.
• The man's son is a doctor.
After
✅ I know a man whose son is a doctor.
Example 3
Before
• The girl is happy.
• The girl's result is good.

4️⃣ WHICH (things / animals)
👉 Used for things or animals
Example 1

✅ The car which is parked outside is new.
Example 3

• I like movies.
• The movies have happy endings.

5️⃣ THAT (people & things)
👉 Used in defining clauses (very common in exams)

• This is the pen.
• You gave me the pen.
After
✅ This is the pen that you gave me.
Example 3

• She is the girl.
• Everyone likes the girl.
