Extended #satelliteimagery of #cyclone #Anggrek.

The cyclone developed in the south-eastern Indian Ocean, where the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency of #Indonesia assigned it the name "Anggrek".
#CycloneAnggrek stalled for multiple days over the same region, only minimally fluctuating in intensity between Tropical #Storm and category one status in the Saffir-Simpson Wind Scale (SSWS). As it finally started to progress to the west-southwest, it gradually intensified, reaching its first peak on the 26th January 2024. About two days later, on the 28th January 2024, it reached its second, and more intense peak. It attained category four intensity (SSWS) while starting a U turn. Anggrek soon started weakening while speeding east-southeast, transitioning to an extratropical cyclone. Extratropical cyclone Anggrek moved far south of Australia only affecting the #weather in Tasmania and New Zealand before dissipating over the South Pacific Ocean.

During its journey, it was viewed by multiple geostationary weather satellites. The video above shows the perspective of Meteosat-9,  GEO-KOMPSAT-2A and Himawari-9.
