NOTE: Matrix opal forms in kaolin claystone (not in sandstone or the other possibilities mentioned in the video. Matrix opal is silicified kaolin clay. Silicification is a process in silicon dioxide (SiO2) permeates (and "replaces") an object or mineral. Fossilization is the result of silicification. Occasionally, silicified substances may have the qualities of opal, which is SiO2 with H2O.
