This video was developed by my pre-college UC Davis COSMOS Sustainable Aquaculture and Aquaponic Plant Production summer course as part of their aquaculture storytelling project. The students selected the topic "kelp" from a hat and produced this video exploring how this ocean plant (actually algae!) quietly shapes our everyday lives.

Kelp isn’t just seaweed you find at the beach — it’s one of the most important marine crops in the world. From kelp farming to sustainable aquaculture, kelp plays a key role in the blue economy. It’s used in food, cosmetics, fertilizers, and even medicine. And yes, it can even be found in ice cream!
