Illogic - First Trimester

Описание к видео Illogic - First Trimester

9th track on Illogics 2004 album "Celestial Clockwork".

I recently bought this great album on Bandcamp (although I already have it on vinyl) because I wanted to support the artist. I included a message asking if he was well and he answered and said that he was still working on stuff and that he had released the album "The Transition" last year. So I looked it up on YouTube and the videos and songs have been clicked between around 500 and 2000 times... ...wtf?
I mean come on.
That's just a shame. A rapper like Illogic deserves more.
To me Illogic is part of golden generation. And that's not just a nostalgic view on a fainted artist, in the early 2000s he was right alongside those dudes that managed to go big in the following years. He was one fifth of a crew called "The Orphanage" who never really released anything but made a few songs together, one of them ("Hold mine") probably being one of the 10 best rap songs of all time. The other members of The Orphanage were Eyedea (may he rest in peace), Blueprint, Aesop Rock and Slug of Atmosphere. And while the latter are succesful to this day, Illogic almost completely vanished from the scene.
Sometimes I feel sorry for those highly talented dudes, who are way more skilled than most "chart rappers" but still never even come close to playing in the big leagues. And sometimes I wish they would just sell-out for two albums so they wouldn't have to worry about money ever again. Simply do the Black Eyed Pea. On the other hand artists like Illogic and Blueprint will probably always be able to look into the mirror and be proud that they stayed true to themselves and their music.
So, back to Celestial Clockwork. That album is an atmospheric masterpiece. Completely produced by Blueprint it has a few of the most unique beats I have ever heard, beats, that you may not be able to find anywhere else. And they match perfectly with Illogics very well written and delivered rhymes. Those dudes were on top of their game back then and you hear from every word and tone that they really wanted to be true artists, who would explore the boundaries of their genre while still staying true to Hip Hops most valued traditions.
I leave the rest of the evaluation to you. Who cares what I say anyway? The last album I uploaded you decided that the two songs with the word "Bitch" in the title would deserve the most plays, although they both kinda suck :D

I do not own any rights to this, I just see it as my duty to share the rap music gems no one has ever heard of.
