The International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Tuesday revised India’s GDP growth forecast for 2025 upward to 6.6% from 6.4%, while lowering the projection for 2026 to 6.2%. According to the IMF’s October 2025 World Economic Outlook report, “In India, growth is projected at 6.6% in 2025 and 6.2% in 2026. Compared with the July WEO Update, this reflects an upward revision for 2025, driven by a strong first quarter that more than offsets the rise in the US effective tariff rate on imports from India since July, and a downward revision for 2026. Relative to the pre-tariff forecast, growth is projected to be cumulatively 0.2 percentage points lower.” Following the report, columnist Suhel Seth engaged in a heated debate on national television, sharply criticizing Congress leader Ashwani Kumar Mishra.
