American regulators have approved the use of what's being called the first 'bionic eye'. It's intended to benefit people with certain types of blindness. It's called Argus II- a videocamera mounted on special sunglasses sends a wireless image to a grid of 60 electrodes that's surgically implanted in the patient's damaged retina.
