😋 DUBAI FOOD TOUR - 2 | Ravi Restaurant: 🇦🇪 Dubai’s Famous Pakistani Restaurant

Ravi Restaurant is more than just a dining spot—it's a Dubai institution with a story as rich as its curries. Its founder, Chaudary Abdul Hameed, arrived in Dubai in 1970 with little more than determination in his pocket. After years of toiling in various low-paying jobs, he realized his dream in 1978 by opening a small eatery in Satwa, aiming to provide affordable, hearty meals to the working-class community. “He wanted to find a way to serve better food to the working class,” says his son, Waseem Abdul Hameed, who now manages the operations.
What began as a modest setup soon became a cultural touchstone. Ravi Restaurant is now a beloved landmark frequented by everyone from South Asian expats craving a taste of home to curious tourists eager to dive into authentic Pakistani cuisine. The restaurant is famous for serving traditional dishes round the clock—breakfast, lunch, and dinner—without compromising on quality or price.
We visited just after Friday prayers, around 1:30 PM, and were ushered into the family dining area—a functional space also storing crates of soft drinks and bottled water. Our order was simple yet representative: a Dal Fry, Chicken Peshawari, and Tandoori Roti.
The Dal Fry, a mix of chana, moong, and urad dals, came as a dry preparation with just the right kick from green chillies. Topped with ginger juliennes and fresh coriander, it was comfort food at its finest—earthy, spicy, and incredibly satisfying with hot roti fresh from the tandoor.
Next came the Chicken Peshawari, served sizzling in a kadai. The chicken was well-cooked and tender, though the thick, tomato-heavy gravy leaned a little too close to Indian-style Butter Chicken for our taste. At AED 28, the portion size was modest, leaving us wishing for just a bit more. Still, the flavors were bold and the presentation classic.
One of the most fascinating modern twists in Ravi’s legacy came in 2022, when Adidas partnered with the restaurant to create a limited-edition Superstar sneaker. The green-and-white shoes featured the Ravi logo, the year of its founding, and even listed six of the restaurant’s signature dishes inside the tongue—making it a collector’s item for sneakerheads and foodies alike. Only 550 pairs were ever made, and if you’re curious, you can still see one on display near the cash counter. It’s hard to miss the Adidas x Ravi branding sprinkled proudly across the walls.
Ravi Restaurant is likely the most iconic Pakistani restaurant in Dubai—and perhaps the most visited. Whether you're a longtime fan or a first-timer looking to explore authentic Pakistani food without breaking the bank, this unassuming spot in Satwa remains a must-visit. Come for the food, stay for the story.
