Size
The case measures 46,5 in diameter and nearly 16mm thick. It is made from sand-coloured ceramic, which is formed by a combination of zirconium oxide with other metallic oxides, which really gives it a very cool hi-tech appearance also make sure the watch isn’t that heavy.
It also ensures that the case is highly scratch-resistant, which comes in handy at these sizes.

Movement
Inside ticks the powerful twin barrel calibre 52 with a huge seven hour power reserve.
And because these Big Pilot’s have a soft iron inner case, you won’t see any of that. Which is a real bummer.
The calibre was made and developed in-house by IWC and introduced in 2015. Some of its key parts are made of high-tech ceramic, like the winding pawls, the rotor bearing and the automatic wheel.

#IWC
IWC was founded in 1868 by the American Florentine Ariosto Jones in the Swiss village Schaffhausen. The manufacture is located right next to the Rhine river, that initially was used to power the factory. It is now owned by luxury conglomerate Richemont.
Anyone who’s been to the IWC manufacture in Schaffhausen, has seen that everything about this place is as modern and clean as it can be. The industrialized process is similar to a production line in a laboratory.
And this watch shows that modern character like nothing else.

Why I chose it
To me, this watch is all about these incredible colours.
The CEO of IWC, mr. Grainger-Herr, told me that they got the inspiration for this watch after visiting Top Gun pilots in the USA. Afterwards they stopped at a gas station that was called Texaco Mojave. And that’s where they got the name as well.
Having worn it, I actually think IWC did a really good job on this “Mojave Desert”.
But not for reasons that make sense.
This IWC shows that watches are emotional things, and can be expressive and norm breaking.
