Dr. Steven Shapiro, clinical geneticist, speaks about the difficulties of diagnosis and treatment of Ehlers-danlos syndrome both from the medical and patient perspective.

Dr. Shapiro begins with a short history and some original reportings of Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, the types of EDS that exist today, how they are diagnosed today and just a few of the characteristics associated with this syndrome. The variability of symptoms patient to patient is logical, genetically, but makes it difficult for many physicians to recognize EDS when using the diagnostic tools that currently exist. Dr. Shapiro also looks at associated conditions including Dysautonomia, POTs, cranio cervical instability, and Chiari.

This meeting was held at the Medical University of South Carolina on November 16th. (2023)
