Imam Zainul Abedin, the son of Imam Husain (AS), was born in Madinah in the month of Shaban 36 AH, or 656 AD. Due to his excessive worship of Allah, he got the title of Zainul Abedin i.e. the ornament of the saints or worshipers. He was also known as Sajjad as he was engaged in prayers and sijada for a long time.

Imam Sajjad (a) was an eyewitness to the events of Karbala. He could not join the jihad because he was seriously ill on the day of that horrible incident on the tenth of Muharram. Yazid's army tried to kill him but was forced to keep this great Imam alive in the face of resistance from his uncle Zainab. Later, by the will of God, he miraculously survived. In fact, it was Allah Almighty who kept him alive to lead the Muslim Ummah in this way, to complete the unfinished work after the time-honored revolution of Karbala and to convey the true message of this revolution to the Muslims.
