Why I Wake Early

Tiny video of me painting a small painting in my sketchbook in a forgotten cow pasture just outside my house. The poem is Mary Oliver's. It is called "Why I Wake Early". Mary Oliver woke up at 5am every morning. I do not. I am a night owl and it is very hard for me to wake up early. I aspire to be like Mary Oliver though. For now, I just read her poems.

This is filmed in the Blue Ridge Mountains. This is Cherokee Land. The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians is 2 hours from this site. This is their historic homeland before they were brutally forced by gunpoint to leave by the United States government.
