DeSoto was nearing the end of its run when this car was produced. The 1960 model year abruptly ended a couple months after it began. The death knell for DeSoto was its very close similarity to Chrysler. My guess is that Mopar could not justify DeSoto anymore...figuring that it was stealing sales from Chrysler. This is a great example of the car in its attempt to attract a younger crowd...hence the series name "Sportsman". Not even the sponsorship of Groucho Marx's "You Bet Your Life" was enough to keep it afloat.
