Hey everybody, Ryan here at etrailer. Today on our 2022 Dodge Durango, we're gonna be showing you how to install the Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver. But before we get into that, let me take a minute and check this out and make sure it's gonna work for you. The best part about this hitch is the fact that it can be completely hidden whenever you're not reusing it. So right from the factory, there'll be a removable panel here, and that kind of brings me to my next point. Before you even think about picking up a hitch, you should probably take this off on your Durango at home.

Just check back there and see, you might get lucky and have something there from the factory. But anyway, whenever you need to use a hitch, you take this off, sits behind the bumper, and whenever you're just going around town or whatever the case may be, you can reinstall this. And it's really not bad, just a couple of clips you screw in. And now the hitch is gonna be completely hidden. It's gonna look totally factory, and you're not even gonna be able to see it, which I think is important on a vehicle like this.

These Durangos actually look pretty aggressive and sporty, and if it we're me, I'd rather have it like this as opposed to having a hitch visible down below. With this being a class three hitch, it is gonna have the two inch by two inch opening, super common size. A lot of different stuff's going to work with it. It is going to use that standard 5/8 pen and clip. Keep in mind though, pen and clip doesn't come included.

If you need one, not a big deal, you can grab it here at etrailer. A lot of times if you end up getting an accessory, a new one, it'll come with one of these, so something to think about. The safety chain openings are gonna be a plate style, and I'm not super crazy about 'em but it's kind of kind is what it is, really no other options there. But they're still gonna provide you with enough space to use just about any size hook that your trailer might have on. As far as the weight capacities go, hitch is gonna have some really impressive numbers.

This thing is well built, for sure. Tongue weight rating is gonna be 900 pounds. That's the amount of weight pushing down on the hitch. So any bike rack or accessory whatever you're trying to do, you should be just fine there. As far as the maximum gross trailer weight rating, that's gonna be 7,500 pounds. It's gonna be the amount of weight pulling on the hitch or your trailer plus anything that you might have on it. This can be used with the weight distribution system, which is a separate component. What happens when you use that, it's gonna help keep your Dodge and your trailer level whenever you're going down the road. So those are pretty popular on larger campers and things like that. That's something you run into, might be worth checking out, but if you use it, maximum gross tongue weight rating will increase to 1,125 pounds. Trailer rate weight rating does remain the same though at 7,500. With all that in mind, you know it's never a bad idea just to grab your SUV's owner's manual. That way you can check in there and make sure that your Durango can handle that much weight safely. I'll give you a couple of measurements and you can use these to help figure out what type of hitch monitor accessories will work best. From the ground to the top inside edge of your receiver tube opening, that's going to be about 19 inches. So if you plan on pulling a trailer around, chances are pretty good you can get a ball mount that has a drop in the shank, probably that two to four inch range for most people. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the edge of the rear bumper, that's gonna be about three inches. And you can use that measurement to figure out that if any folding accessories you might have can be stored in that upright position without contacting the bumper. And that's some pretty good clearance. The majority of you shouldn't really run into any issues there. Other than that, you know, at the end of the day, if I we're to put a hitch on my own Durango, this would be my go-to, for sure. I think it looks the best when your panel is installed, but if it's not, you're gonna have your trailer or something else hooked up anyway. So kind of is what it is. And with real high weight capacities and things of that nature, to me it's just kind of a no-brainer. To get it installed though it is a little bit of work. So, in my opinion, though, it's definitely that work is worth the reward. You will have to remove to fascia and some other components. It's really not too bad though, so. As long as you take your time and stay focused, shouldn't run i
