Repairing the centerboard winch on a 1947 Lightning Class sailboat. This is very old school tech – wooden spools and ropes for winches to raise and lower a 130 pound plate of steel. The wooden spool had swelled and warped out of round, so it no longer turned. It was removed and re-rounded on a belt sander, then restrung with smaller and stronger synthetic braided cable.
