I travelled to Zemithang, a remote Himalayan village at the edge of India's border with China (Occupied Tibet) and Bhutan, and uncovered a story the world has nearly forgotten.

This is where the 14th Dalai Lama first entered India in 1959 while escaping from Tibet.
This is where Gorsam Chorten, an 800-year-old stupa, still stands tall in silence.
This is where faith, politics, and history collide—at the heart of the Gorsam Kora Festival, a sacred Buddhist pilgrimage that brings together people from India and Bhutan.

Few know this place exists. Fewer know China claims it as “South Tibet.”
But the people of Zemithang proudly call it home—a place rooted in tradition, guarded by monks, and watched over by the Indian Army.
