This song is the first song I've ever written that was inspired by someone. While visiting a friend out of state, we got to talking about her grandmother, who in her 30's, as a mother of 9 children, lost her eyesight. Her husband had a cattle farm in the next town over, so most days he was gone from early morning until late at night. She taught herself to cook, clean, and take care of the kids. She would pick out her outfits by the feel of the fabric. When my friend, as a child, would come to visit her, she would follow her grandmother around the house with her eyes closed, using her fingers to feel her way along the walls. Something she still occasionally does now that she lives in the same house her grandmother did. After hearing this, and visualizing that powerful image of a little girl following her grandmother down the very same hallway I was standing in, I sat down at the old piano in her house, and started to "walk" my fingers along the keys, in the same cautious, yet trusting manner I imagined their fingers walking along those walls. It wasn't long before I had a very simple melody, that over the course of the next 2 months turned into this song. So I dedicate this one to Rose, the strongest woman I unfortunately never got the chance to meet. Rest In Peace.
