NOVELTY ACCORDION (with improvisation) Alf Hågedal Jazz Accordion Trio 2016

Описание к видео NOVELTY ACCORDION (with improvisation) Alf Hågedal Jazz Accordion Trio 2016

The Swedish accordionist Erik Frank wrote Novelty Accordion in the mid 1940's, and it has remained a favorite among Swedish accordionists ever since. Back in the day it wasn't intended to be a vehicle for improvisations (not even by Mr Frank himself), and thus the proportions of "The Head" is quite lengthy:

Introduction [4 Bars]
Main Section [16 Bars, "Ternary Form"]
Contrasting Minor Section [8 Bars]
Main Section (repeated in extenso)
Bridge/2nd Introduction... [4 Bars modulating into the Subdominant]
C-Section [32 Bars, "Ternary Form"]
= 80 Bars in total(!!!)

However, when Alf Hågedal plays Novelty Accordion we are invariably served a new and inventive/personal improvisation over the repeated C-section(s).

There are three other Hågedal takes of Novelty Accordion to be found on YouTube for those who wish to make comparisons:
