Activation Energy:
The minimum energy that colliding particles must possess for a successful collision to take place is called the activation energy of that particular reaction.

Catalyst:
A catalyst is a substance that increases the rate of a reaction but remains chemically unchanged itself at the end of the reaction. A catalyst does this by making it possible for the particles to react by an alternative mechanism. This alternative mechanism has a lower activation energy.

Enthalpy Change:
The enthalpy change of a reaction usually appears as heat, which means that there is a temperature change.
If the products have less enthalpy than the reactants, there is an enthalpy decrease during the reaction (Delta H is negative) and an equivalent amount of heat energy must be given out by the reaction; the reaction is said to be exothermic. The heat given out is passed to the surroundings - that is, the environment around the reaction - where it can be measured.

Most chemical reactions are exothermic, but there are some in which the enthalpy increases (Delta H is positive), and the reaction is then said to be endothermic. These reactions take in heat from the surroundings because the enthalpy of the products is more than the enthalpy of the reactants.
