The recall impacts 2022-2024 models, including 2,626 units of the EQB 250, 3,311 of the EQB 300 4Matic, and 1,415 of the EQB 350 4Matic, all built between December 2021 and January 2025. The issue stems from potential internal short circuits in the high-voltage battery, which might result from early-stage production variations or external factors like electric current fluctuations during charging.

While there haven't been any reported fires in the U.S., incidents have occurred elsewhere. The affected battery packs were produced by Farasis Energy in China. As a precaution, Mercedes-Benz is advising owners to limit charging to 80% until a software update is installed at service centers to minimize risk.

This is the third recall for the EQB in the U.S., following previous issues with child seat anchor covers and drivetrain gear welds.
