IT’S HAPPENED BEFORE!!!

Yesterday, Chris Bertish won at the Mavericks Surf Contest in California. Chris rode some really huge waves and earned $50,000 for his amazing skills!

But something sad happened during the event. A bunch of fans who came to watch got hurt when big waves crashed across the spectator section.

It was around 9 in the morning near Pillar Point when it happened. Thirteen people got hurt, and about 40 others were knocked down by the strong waves. These fans were standing on a low wall made of concrete, and the powerful water pushed them into rocks or mud. It was a scary moment for everyone there.

The awards ceremony stage fell down, and equipment for broadcasting on the beach got soaked by water.

The worst injuries were broken bones. A man's leg was broken, and a woman fractured her ankle. Three people had to go to the nearby hospital in an ambulance.

But, guess what? This is the second time that spectators were injured at a Mavericks Surf Contest.
You would think that with as huge as the surf was yesterday, that someone would have remembered that it happened BEFORE!!!

Oh well….. lucky no one was more seriously injured or killed…
