Soleus Muscle | Trigger Point Anatomy | Referred Pain

Описание к видео Soleus Muscle | Trigger Point Anatomy | Referred Pain

Upper soleus trigger points tend to refer to the sacroiliac and pelvic areas, and are more likely to interfere with the venous pump, causing ankle and foot swelling. In conjunction with the musculovenous pump, they can cause symptoms of calf and foot pain with edema of the foot and ankle.

Because of large-diameter vein pockets, a tough fascial covering, and large open veins above, the soleus muscle provides major pumping action to return blood from the legs to the upper body for reoxygenation.

In combination with the plantaris tendon, upper soleus trigger points can be involved in posterior tibial nerve, vein, and/or artery entrapment. They can contribute to craniosacral dysfunction and/or dental malocclusion. We have found that the jaw referral pattern from trigger points at the base of the calf muscle is not unusual, as has been reported elsewhere.

It seems to be fairly common in people with CMP and FM. Trigger points in the outer edge of the soleus tend to refer pain to the mid calf; trigger points in the lower part of the muscle may be more likely to cause heel pain.
