Living with cancer changes more than your health—it changes the way you see yourself.
In this video, I open up about my personal struggles with body image, mental health, and the emotional impact of cancer treatment.
When I was first diagnosed with cancer, I lost over 20 kilos (44 pounds) in just a few months. What followed was an ongoing battle with self-esteem, body image issues, and the fear of wasting syndrome (cachexia)—something that up to 80% of people with late-stage cancer experience.
This video continues the conversation I started in Part 1, diving deeper into:
Cancer and mental health: how weight loss, treatment, and changes in appearance can affect confidence and wellbeing.
Body image struggles during cancer: obsessing over weight, muscle loss, and appearance.
Cachexia (wasting syndrome): what it is, how it impacts cancer patients, and why it’s so frightening.
The importance of empathy: why “just get over it” doesn’t help and what loved ones can do instead.
Practical steps forward: how I’m learning patience, acceptance, and taking small steps to rebuild confidence.
I share this not just for those living with cancer, but also for carers, families, friends, and loved ones who want to understand what’s really going on beneath the surface. If you’re struggling with cancer-related body image, depression, or low self-esteem, I want you to know you are not alone. There is support, there is community, and there are people who understand.
💬 Please share your experiences in the comments—I’d love to hear your story. Whether you’re a patient, survivor, carer, or supporter, your voice matters.
