ELEPHANTS Intelligent and social

Elephants are the largest land-dwelling mammals on earth. The Asian elephants have smaller ears than their African counterparts -- and there are other differences within species as well. An elephant can weigh four to six tonnes and can vary in length from 18 to 24 feet.
As far as female elephants go, they are led by a matriarch and have a complex social structure. The males either live in small bachelor groups or in isolation.
Asian elephants usually live to about 48 years of age, whereas African elephants tend to live longer, from 60 to 70 years old.
