On with the show!

To defend a rear naked choke, keep these tips in mind...

1- Don't turn your back! Allowing an attacker to get behind you gives them all the choices. If someone tries to spin you, keep spinning!

2- Pull the arm and drop your weight! Getting the choking arm off your neck is crucial. Adding your bodyweight to the effort by bending your knees and crunching forward is a great idea.

3- Get your chin down! Because the rear naked choke attacks the SIDES of the neck, dropping your chin doesn't really stop the choke... but it might buy you an extra second. So, do it!

4- Grab his fingers! Whether the bad guy puts his supporting hand on top of your head or behind it, grabbing for the fingers is worth a try. Peel off that arm and pin it under your arm.

5- Dig your fingers into his arm! Making even a LITTLE space between his arm and your neck will keep the blood flowing and keep you in the fight.

6- Control the hands! At any stage of a fight, if you can seize and direct the bad guy's hands, it will be very difficult for him to strike or choke you. So, make tracking and attaching to his hands a top priority!
