Strategies for the Internationalization of Higher Education: Towards a Comprehensive Approach

The internationalization of higher education has become a key component for institutions seeking to adapt to an increasingly globalized world. This phenomenon, driven by globalization and the growing importance of the Knowledge Society, has experienced a remarkable expansion since the end of the 20th century. Internationalization has focused on the quality of degrees and certifications, adopting criteria that favor academic mobility and recognition at global, regional, national and institutional levels. However, it is often confused with international cooperation, and in the context of the Global South it tends to focus on student and faculty mobility, both abroad and in the reception of international students.
