Very frustrating player to study. Watched about 5 of his games and he barely does anything but make mistakes. This was one of his (few) better games of the year.

Pros: Good athlete. Good strength despite being undersized. Good speed. Very good instincts... shows the ability to diagnose plays and is a tackling machine. Great instincts flowing through trash.. anticipates when and where blockers are going to block him and uses his instincts to react and avoid them to make the play. Attacks his lanes and makes the play. Is in on nearly every tackle and play... has a good nose for the ball. Reasonably decent short area tackling. Good wrap up tackler overall.. flashes the ability to get low and drive his man back. Very good lateral agility when chasing plays. Good at reading his keys overall against the run.. stays in his lane responsibility and knows when to diagnose plays. Very nice in coverage.. surprisingly fluid and agile in that area, rare combination of instincts and technique in zone defense. Capable of running with TEs in man coverage. Good press technique to knock off TEs off their routes. Gets very flawless drops in deep middle

Cons: Unbelievably inconsistent and frustrating. Very up-and-down. Will have some great games but will also have games when he is a non factor and is invisible. Despite very good hustle and motor has some games when he doesn't play with much intensity and effort. Extremely inconsistent in that area.. actually admitted to playing lazy on the field sometimes. Very inconsistent flowing through trash. Gets engulfed and washed out of plays.. poor disengaging ability. Doesn't consistently show the ability to slip past blocks. Easily allows blockers into his chest. Very poor at using hands. Being undersized also plays a role into his struggles.. has short arms and is reportedly 225 pounds. Needs to overall get better leverage and become more violent with his hands against the run. Very good lateral agility but can sometimes take questionable angles because of his good speed.. will not get away with this at the next level. Not the linebacker you're looking for if you want an intense, high energy, consistent preformer. Questionable intangibles. Has the upside to be a very good linebacker at the next level and one of the best in this draft class if he can simply keep his head straight.

NFL Comparison:

Lawrence Timmons: Somewhat comparable to Timmons coming out of Florida State. Like Timmons, Lawrence makes plays with his instincts instead of technique in his run defense. Both also have great range and superb ability in coverage but needs to be more consistent with fundmentals/technique and become stronger.
