Alfred Ernest Allen served with distinction in the Royal Army during WWI then emigrated to States with a theater troupe. In 1931, he made his screen premier as Alan Mowbray and went on to enjoy a long career as a character actor specializing in English Gentlemen roles, especially stuffy butlers. In real life, Alan was anything but stuffy. He was one of the founding members of the Screen Actors Guild. In 1950, producer’s put together an audition edition of The Alan Mowbray Show featuring human interest stories from Mowbray’s depth of experience.
