Rona - Lyrics Video - Waiata Māori Song

Описание к видео Rona - Lyrics Video - Waiata Māori Song

Rona was composed in 1972 by Christchurch Teachers Training College students under the guidance of Mrs Honor Goldsmith.

This waiata or song is based on the pūrākau or ancient story of a woman called Rona and the moon. While transporting water in hue (water gourds), Rona stumbled as the moon disappeared behind a cloud. In her frustration, she swore at the moon. The moon swiftly lifted her, along with the gourds and a Ngaio tree she clung to. It is claimed you can still see Rona in the moon's features on a clear night.

This version of the Rona song is performed by the band Vivid Haze ft Ms.Ava Walker (lead Guitar, Vocals), Ellen Lucas (Drums), Emily Whineray (Bass) and Kaiya Walker (Keyboards).

Lyrics:
Takoto ana au
I’m lying down
ki te moenga uriuri.
in my shadowy bed.
Tū ake au.
I stood up.
Titiro ki te atarau.
(To) look at the moonlight.

Kei runga ra,
Up there,
Te marama e whiti ana
In the bright moon.
Kei hea a Rona?
Where is Rona?
Kei runga ra.
Up there.

Piri ki te taha,
Holding to the calabash,
Piri ki te ngaio.
Clinging to the Ngaio (tree).

Aue, ra,
Alas,
e Rona e.
Rona.
Aue, Rona e!
Alas, Rona.
