Kannagi's Speech at the Pandiyan Court - English Subtitles - Best Court Scene

Poompuhar is a Tamil film based off the ancient Tamil Epic Silapathikaram (the Tale of the Anklet)

Context:
Kannagi and Kovalan are couple who have come to the city of Madurai to seek a new life. To fund a new business, Kovalan goes off to the market to sell Kannagi's ruby filled anklets. Meanwhile, a similar anklet, filled with pearls belonging to the Queen's anklets is stolen by the royal goldsmith.

Kovalan meets the royal goldsmith to sell the anklet, and the goldsmith seizes the opportunity to push the blame of the lost anklet on the innocent Kovalan. The Pandiyan king orders the immediate execution of Kovalan without a trial, placing his trust on the word of the goldsmith.

Despite being a common Tamil woman in the 4th century CE , Kannagi stands up to the injustice of the Pandiyan king by facing him off at his palace. Sick of the corrupt and injustice filled city, she sets a curse upon the city, causing it to burn to its foundations.

This is based off the climax of the second part of the three part epic Silapathikaram.
