বাগেরহাটে আফতাব-পাঁচ জাতের ধানের বাম্পার ফলন হয়েছে। এতে খুশি কৃষকরা।

কৃষি কর্মকর্তা জানান, ফকিরহাট উপজেলায় ফাতেমা বেগম নামে এক নারী বর্ষা মৌসুমে পুকুরে ভাসমান অবস্থায় ৩টি ধানের শিষ দেখতে পান। পরে ধানগুলো সংগ্রহ করে জমিতে চাষ করেন তার ছেলে লেবুয়াত মিয়া। এতে ব্যতিক্রম জাতের ধান উৎপাদন হয়।

ধানগুলো বীজ হিসেবে দ্বিতীয় দফায় চাষ করেন তিনি। এতে বাম্পার ফলন হয়। বিষয়টি কৃষি কর্মকর্তারা জানতে পেরে এর নাম দেন আফতাব-৫। এটি ব্রি-২৮ জাতের ধানের চেয়ে দ্বিগুন ফলন দেয় বলে জানান উপজেলা কৃষি কর্মকর্তা।
