Florida LTAP Webinar: Speed Calming and Speed Management

Описание к видео Florida LTAP Webinar: Speed Calming and Speed Management

The Florida LTAP Center presents this two-part webinar series on Speed Calming and Speed Management. Speeding–traveling too fast for conditions or exceeding the posted speed limits–is a factor in 26 percent of all fatalities. In 2018, there were 36,560 fatalities on our Nation’s roadways, of which 9,378 were speeding-related. Speeding is a safety concern on all roads. Although much of the public concern about speeding has been focused on high-speed Interstates, over 35 percent of speeding-related fatalities occur on lower speed collector and local roads. Speeding is a complex issue involving engineering, driving behavior, education, and enforcement. This two-part webinar series will examine the rapidly evolving field of Speed Management Safety and equip the participant with the latest resources and information.

Participants will learn where to find the latest research and information about speed calming and speed management techniques. They will be exposed to speed-related crash data as well as speed management practices that have been successfully employed.

Part 1 of 2 – Resources and Guidance
The first session will introduce the Speed Management Safety program as outlined on FHWA’s Safety Office website. The wide array of available resources will be showcased.

Part 2 of 2 – FDOT Design Manual and Applications
The second session will examine the Speed Management processes and information contained in the latest edition of the FDOT Design Manual. We will examine the Context Classification System and transitions between different context classifications. We will examine applications of the various treatments that were identified in Part 1 and how they can be used in managing speeds in these transition areas.
