Portworx Enterprise 2.12 introduces a new feature named PX-Fast, which takes advantage of improvements within the data plane of Portworx to enable better utilization of highly performant storage such as NVMe devices for use as Kubernetes persistent storage.

With server and cloud instance configurations increasingly including NVMe devices, a single server or instance can support millions of IOPS and several gigabits of throughput while providing latencies measured in microseconds instead of milliseconds. PX-Fast optimizes the data path to better take advantage of the higher IOPS, throughput, and lower latency of these NVMe devices, and passes those benefits on to applications that require Kubernetes persistent storage. Use PX-Fast to better balance your capacity to performance ratio which in turn lowers costs, regardless if you are running Kubernetes on cloud or on-premises infrastructure.

In this demo, we explore how efficiently PX-Fast takes advantage of NVMe benefits in high density/high utilization scenarios. We'll put our new feature to the test and see if we can hit over a million IOPS within Kubernetes on a single server, and see how just a single NVMe per server can improve transactions per second and latency in a cloud native PostgreSQL instance.
