This Istanbul walking tour was recorded on September 6, 2025, right after a summer rain. The video begins in Sultanahmet Square, the heart of the Istanbul historic district. This area was once the Byzantine Hippodrome, the political and social center of Constantinople. Today, Sultanahmet Square is one of the most popular places for an Istanbul travel 2025 experience, surrounded by fountains, ancient columns, the Blue Mosque, and Hagia Sophia.
The first stop in this Sultanahmet after rain walk is the Blue Mosque (Sultan Ahmed Mosque). This Blue Mosque history walk shows details about its construction between 1609 and 1616, commissioned by Sultan Ahmed I and designed by Sedefkar Mehmed Agha, a student of Mimar Sinan. Inside, more than 20,000 handmade İznik tiles give the mosque its famous blue color, which is why it is known as the Blue Mosque. The mosque is also unique for having six minarets, something no other mosque in Istanbul had at the time. To resolve the controversy with the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina, an extra minaret was added there.
The route then continues with a Hagia Sophia 4K walk. Hagia Sophia was built in 537 AD by Emperor Justinian I, with architects Anthemius of Tralles and Isidore of Miletus. At that time, it was the largest church in the world. After the conquest of Constantinople in 1453, Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror converted it into a mosque. In 1935, under Atatürk, it became a museum, and in 2020 it was reconverted into a mosque. This Istanbul no talk walk lets you explore Hagia Sophia and see how history has shaped it through the centuries.
After Hagia Sophia, the video includes an Arasta Bazaar walk. The Arasta Bazaar, located behind the Blue Mosque, dates back to the Ottoman era. It was originally built to support the maintenance of the mosque and is still filled with Turkish handicrafts, carpets, and souvenirs. Even on a rainy day in Istanbul, the bazaar remains lively and colorful.
This no talk walking tour in Istanbul combines Byzantine and Ottoman history with the everyday atmosphere of the city. Even after the summer rain, Sultanahmet Square and its surroundings remain full of tourists and locals.
