Eric Johanson, patient ambassador, retired Special Operations, US Secret Service &

Dr. Grewal will review DBS as a treatment option for Parkinson’s disease. He will describe
how new directional technology is allowing for more personalized programming & less
follow-up surgeries thanks to wireless rechargeable IPG’s. He will walk participants thru
the DBS process, including what to expect and how to prepare for your initial visit, and
discuss the operative and postoperative experience. Dr. Grewal will also highlight questions every patient should be asking their
medical team. Additionally, Eric Johanson will join Dr. Grewal for this interactive discussion. Eric was the first patient to receive
directional Deep Brain Stimulation Surgery at Mayo Clinic Jacksonville in 2019. He will be sharing his story with Parkinson’s disease
from the initial diagnosis to life after DBS so that he can help others going through a similar experience.
