ABOUT THE EVENT:
The Cameron Boyce Foundation (TCBF)was established in July of 2019 after actor Cameron Boyce (Descendants) died in his sleep at the age of 20, due to SUDEP (Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy Patients). Cameron only had five seizures in his lifetime: the first at age 17 with the last at age 20. 1 in 26 people are living with epilepsy, and more than 1 in 1000 will die from SUDEP. Since its inception The Cameron Boyce Foundation has raised more than $1 million dollars, and has led successful awareness campaigns such as NOW WHAT?! And #EpilepsyStrong, shining a much-needed spotlight on a disease that has far too long lurked in the shadows. TCBF has also partnered with CURE Epilepsy to fund annual research grants, with the inaugural Cameron Boyce Foundation Taking Flight Award going to Dr. Christina Reschke (RCSI School of Pharmacy and Biomolecular Sciences and FutureNeuro), for her research into the restoration of circadian function as a therapy for epilepsy. The CURE Epilepsy Cameron Boyce SUDEP Research Award, a two year research grant, was given to Dr. David Auerbach (SUNY Upstate Medical University). Dr. Auerbach’s research titled, “Cardiac and Automatic Pathological Markers for Arrhythmias and Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy Patients,” will use analytical tools that are well accepted in the cardiac field, but new to the study of epilepsy and SUDEP to identify epilepsy patient populations at risk of cardiac-related SUDEP.
