Question 2a: How useful are the sources for your #gcsehistory exam?

Remember this eight mark question also appears in Paper 3. You will be given two sources to analyse in relation to a specific enquiry. The best way to approach this question is to follow this structure for each source:

What is the source telling me?

Can I trust it?

What do I know to support or challenge the source?

‘What is the source telling me?’ is the CONTENT part of the question - just doing this properly can get you half of the eight marks.

A useful rule to remember here is the ‘three quote’ rule. Explain what the source is showing or telling you by selecting and writing down three quotes. They don’t all have to be sentences, some can be key words (three details if it is a visual source).
