ISLAMABAD, Friday, December 26, 2025 (WNP): President of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan was accorded a grand red-carpet welcome upon his arrival in Islamabad on Friday, marking his first official visit to Pakistan as the UAE President at the invitation of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif.
As the official aircraft of the UAE President entered Pakistani airspace, Pakistan Air Force JF-17 Thunder fighter jets escorted the flight as a gesture of honour and friendship, underscoring the close defence and strategic ties between the two countries.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, warmly received President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed at Nur Khan Airbase. Senior cabinet members and high-ranking government officials were also present to welcome the visiting dignitary.
The UAE President, who arrived with a high-powered delegation comprising ministers and senior officials, was accorded a 21-gun salute on arrival. Children dressed in traditional attire presented bouquets to the guest of honour, while the national anthems of Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates were played during a formal welcome ceremony. A smartly turned-out contingent drawn from Pakistan’s armed forces presented a guard of honour at the airbase.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed later introduced members of their respective delegations, reflecting the importance both sides attach to high-level engagement and institutional cooperation.
This marks Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s first visit to Pakistan in his capacity as President of the United Arab Emirates. The visit is being viewed as a significant milestone in Pakistan-UAE relations, which are rooted in decades of close political, economic and people-to-people ties.
During his stay, President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed is scheduled to hold detailed talks with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The two leaders are expected to review the full spectrum of bilateral relations, including economic cooperation, investment, energy, defence and development partnership, and exchange views on key regional and international issues of mutual interest.
The visit provides an important opportunity to further strengthen the longstanding brotherly relations between Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates, deepen strategic cooperation and explore new avenues for mutually beneficial collaboration in support of regional stability and shared prosperity.
