In this Tip of the Week Kelly and Kyle of Cruiser Customizing talk about the differences and show the proper fitment of motorcycle chaps and vests. Chaps and vests are a motorcycling staple providing stylish protection against road rash and wind.

In this tip we feature chaps and vests ranging from basic entry level styles beginning at $60 up to the premium brands which can cost over $200. Common differentiators when looking at chaps and vests will be: Leather Quality (thickness & texture), Number of Panels, Seams (single or double stitch), Quality of Hardware, lined vs. unlined, and much more...

When it comes to sizing, vests can be made to fit many applications with the use of vest extenders from Hot Leathers, Mustang Gift, Biker Gift, and Auburn Leather. Most extenders are 4" but different sizes can be made to order at most leather shops for reasonable prices.

Chaps usually come longer than necessary with an unfinished bottom as they are meant to be "cut to length. Chap sizing is best done while sitting on your motorcycle or in a chair. Have a friend mark the chap just above the sole of your boot and after the first couple of breaks in the front. Warning! Measure Twice - Cut Once!
