Fix Discord Javascript Error Windows 10 | A Javascript Error Occurred

If you're currently experiencing issues with a Discord javascript error that is preventing the application from launching then keep watching!

Occasionally issues occur with the discord installation files that result in problems such as the infamous 'a javascript error occurred in the main process' error message and other similar problems. Usually if you have a javascript error Discord will fail to launch completely.

The following steps will resolve the issue in most cases:

Step 1 - Stop any running Discord Processes

Right click on the start menu
The contextual menu will appear
Click on task manager
Alternatively press ctrl + alt + del then click task manager

Find the main Discord process
Click on the process and then press end task
Close the task manager

Step 2 - Uninstall Discord

Right click on the start menu
Click Apps & Features
Alternatively search for apps & features in the main start menu
Apps & Features will be displayed
Click on the search box and type Discord
Or scroll down the list and find Discord
Left click on Discord then click uninstall
A confirmation dialogue will appear
Click on uninstall again
Give it a moment and Discord will disappear from the list of installed Applications
Close Apps & Features

Step 3 - Delete the Discord AppData Folder

Right click on the start menu
Click on run in the contextual menu
Alternatively search for Run in the main start menu
The run dialogue will appear
Type in %appdata% then click on ok
The Appdata folder will open
Find the Discord folder and delete it
Close the appdata folder

Step 4 - Delete the Discord LocalAppData Folder

As in the previous step, open the Run dialogue
Type in %localappdata% and click OK
The local appdata folder will open
Find the Discord folder and delete it
Close the localappdata folder

Step 5 - Download discord

Open your browser and head over to the discord website
Click download

Step 6 - Reinstall Discord

Run the Discord installer that you just downloaded
After the installation has completed launch Discord and sign-in

With a bit of luck, everything should be working as normal and the 'a javascript error occurred in the main process' or other related Discord javascript error should be gone!

If you're still having issues, double check that your antivirus hasn't flagged some of the Discord installation files and if necessary add those files to the antivirus exclusion / or whitelist
