You can BAKE in an emergency WITHOUT an OVEN!!!!!
Historical STEAMED PUDDING recipe modernized for our emergency prep! Prepper pantry, emergency jar meals, meals in a jar, gluten free emergency prep, gluten free preparedness, gluten free prepper, JUST ADD WATER recipes. Ready for power outages, SHTF, grid down, quick meals, budget meals, no junk ingredients. Be prepared. Save money.

Recipe for our Steamed Pudding/Cake:
You can use regular all purpose flour in place of the gluten free flour blend— it’s a 1:1 replacement.


Layer in 1 quart glass jar- be sure you have a lid that fits!

1/2 cup white chocolate chips
3/4 cup FD raspberries
1 cup King Arthur measure for measure gluten free flour
2 tablespoons FD scrambled egg
6 tablespoons FD butter
1 tsp vanilla powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp Redmonds real salt
6 tablespoons brown sugar * I used organic
1/4 cup white sugar *I used organic
Top off with more FD raspberries if desired

Place lid & label on jar. Remove air if desired with jar sealer. This should last ~5 years on your shelf with air removed- if using within 6-12 months I wouldn’t worry about removing air. If gifting be sure to include the vanilla powder OR provide a small amber bottle of your homemade vanilla extract attached.

Instructions:
Add 3/4 cup water, mix gently to fully combine
Line your stainless steel or glass dish with parchment paper
Pour batter into prepared dish
Place large pot with lid onto cooking surface (gas burner, propane stove, butane burner, etc…)
Place metal rack or other item to elevate dish into bottom of pot.
Add about 3 cups water to the pot, reaching just over the rack.
Place baking dish on rack in pan.Cover pot with lid. Bring to a boil over high flame, then reduce to simmer and allow to steam for 15 min. Check water level and top up as needed. Simmer for another 15 min, check again. Turn flame off and allow to sit in pot with lid on for 15-30 min. Remove from pot and allow to rest for 15min-2 hours(it only gets better with time), then remove from baking dish OR scoop out as desired. You can bake this in an oven as well and you’d get more of a blondie type dish- 350F for about 30min.

Brownie
Remove white chocolate chips and FD raspberries
Add 1/4 cup cocoa powder & 1 cup chocolate chips
Increase water to 1 cup when preparing dish

Banana Bread
Remove FD raspberries
Add 3/4 cup slightly crushed FD banana slices & 1 tsp cinnamon
If using within 12 months you can also add 1/4 cup of chopped nuts of choice

Apple Spice Cake
Remove FD Rasberries
Add 1/2 cup FD applesauce & 1/2 cup FD cinnamon apples slightly crushed/broken & 1 teaspoon cinnamon & 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
Increase water to 1 cup for rehydration
