I secured the 3rd position at the East India Blockchain Summit (EIBS) 2025 at IIT Kharagpur sponsored by Avalanche.

Project Description:

This project implements a decentralized identity management system leveraging Decentralized Identifiers (DIDs) and Verifiable Credentials (VCs). The goal is to provide a secure, privacy-preserving, and decentralized identity verification and management approach.

The project comprises three interconnected web applications, each serving a critical role in the ecosystem: Issuer, Authenticator, and Verifier.

1. Issuer Web Application
The Issuer web application is responsible for creating and issuing Verifiable Credentials (VCs) to users.
Key Features:
Registration: Organizations or entities can register as trusted issuers.
Credential Issuance: Issuers can generate VCs containing user-specific information such as names, IDs, or certifications. These credentials are cryptographically signed to ensure authenticity.
DID Integration: Each issued credential is associated with a user's DID, ensuring decentralized ownership and control.

2. Authenticator Web Application
The Authenticator web application is the user interface for managing DIDs and VCs.
Key Features:
User Dashboard: Users can view and manage their DIDs and associated VCs.
Secure Storage: Implements secure methods (e.g., wallets) to store DIDs and VCs locally or on the blockchain.
Credential Sharing: Allows users to selectively share VCs with verifiers using cryptographic protocols to ensure privacy.
DID Resolution: Resolves DIDs to retrieve public keys or other metadata.

3. Verifier Web Application
The Verifier web application is designed for entities requiring credential validation.
Key Features:
Credential Verification: Verifiers can authenticate the validity of VCs by checking the issuer's signature and ensuring the credential has not been tampered with or revoked.
DID Lookup: The application queries the associated DID registry to confirm the issuer's and user's identities.
Access Control: Implement policies to ensure only authorized entities can request and verify specific credentials.

Technologies and Frameworks Used:

Blockchain/DID Registry: For decentralized storage and resolution of DIDs.
Cryptographic Protocols: Ensuring secure issuance, sharing, and verification of VCs.
Frontend Frameworks: For the user interface of all three web apps (e.g., React, Angular).
Backend: Node.js/Express.js for handling APIs and server logic.
Interoperability Standards: Adhering to W3C standards for DIDs and VCs.

Overall Workflow:

Issuance: The issuer creates a VC and associates it with the user's DID.
Management: The user stores and manages their VCs using the Authenticator web app.
Verification: The verifier retrieves the user's VC, validates its authenticity and integrity, and confirms the user's identity or claim.
